OneDrive and Office 365 files

Displays OneDrive or Office 365 files and folders on a page. Unlike Google Drive, which uses public "anyone with the link" sharing, OneDrive files are read through your district's connected Office 365 account.

If your files are in Google Drive, see Google Drive files, which uses a different sharing model.

File block and Files & Folders terrace

The same surfaces as Google Drive — a File block on Grid pages and a Files & Folders terrace on Terraced pages — pointed at a OneDrive or Office 365 file or folder URL.

A folder source shows the folder's contents (the files and subfolders inside it), not the folder itself. On Grid pages, one source per File block; on Terraced pages, the single Files & Folders terrace shows all of the page's connected file sources together.

Requirements

For a OneDrive file or folder to display, all three must be true:

  • A valid share link is pasted into the block.
  • SchoolBlocks is authorized in your Office 365 (your district connected it).
  • The link was shared from your verified Office 365 account — the same account connected to SchoolBlocks. A link from a personal or unrelated Microsoft account won't resolve.

You connect and verify this at My Account → Configuration → Authenticate with Office 365.

Adding a source

  1. Confirm your district is connected at My Account → Configuration → Authenticate with Office 365. If it isn't, that has to happen first — contact support if you're unsure who manages it.
  2. In OneDrive or SharePoint, open the file or folder → Share → create a viewing link → copy it. Create it from your district's verified Office 365 account.
  3. Add the source: Grid page → +Files; Terraced page → +Manage Content Sources → under Add New Source, click the Office 365 icon (it appears only when your district signs in with Office 365).
  4. Grid page: paste the link into the block's Url field and save the block. Terraced page: paste the link into the URL field ("Enter a URL...") and click Go.

Refresh

Sources refresh about once an hour. Files you remove or move in OneDrive drop off on the next refresh. To apply a change now, re-save the block.

FAQ

  • The block shows an error about a share link or Office 365 permissions. One of the three requirements isn't met: the link isn't a valid share link, SchoolBlocks isn't authorized in your Office 365, or the link wasn't shared from your verified account. Re-check all three at Configuration → Authenticate with Office 365.
  • Can I use a personal OneDrive account? No. The link must come from your district's verified Office 365 account.
  • A folder shows only its contents, not the folder. Expected. On Grid pages, use the File block's Title field if you want a label above the files.
  • A source worked before and then stopped. The Office 365 connection lapsed, or the share link changed or was removed. Re-verify the connection and copy a fresh link.
  • Can one block show two folders? On Grid pages, no — one source per File block; use a separate block per folder. On Terraced pages, yes — add both folders as content sources and the Files & Folders terrace shows them together.
