Message block
The Message block is a Grid block that displays text and an optional image. It can hold one message or several that rotate.
This article covers the Grid Message block. It is not the Message/Post item in the add menu, which opens the notification editor. See Notifications.
Adding a Message block
- Click the + (Add content) button in the admin menu.
- Click Message.
- Enter the fields, then click Add Block.
The editor heading is Add content, with the chip a Message Block.
Editing
Click the pencil on the block (Click to edit). The editor heading is Edit content. Save Changes keeps the edits. Cancel discards them. Delete removes the block.
Message fields
Each message has these fields.

| Display message underneath the image | Shown when an image is set. Places the image above the text instead of as a background |
Add Additional Message adds another slide. Each slide is headed Message and a number, with Move up, Move down, and Delete.
Color
Color is Dark or Light. Default is dark. The editor links to a Color Contrast Checker.
Visitor behavior
- A single message shows its title, text, and image in the block.
- With more than one message, the block rotates every 5 seconds.
- With a URL set, the message is a link.
- With Display message underneath the image on, the image sits above the text.
- On phones, an Expand control appears when the content does not fit the block height.
Constraints
- A message needs an image alone, or both a title and a message.
- Every image needs alt text.
- Images larger than 1 megabyte after compression are refused with File is too large, please reduce to 1MB.
FAQ
- "Why is the URL field disabled?" The message body contains markdown links. The whole-message URL cannot be used at the same time.
- "Why will the image not upload?" Reduce the file to 1 megabyte or less, or use a different image format.
- "Is Message the same as Message/Post?" No. Message is this Grid block. Message/Post opens the notification editor.
