Files & Folders terrace
The Files & Folders terrace is a terrace listing connected cloud files and folders for the page, with an inline preview on desktop.

This article covers the terrace. For Google Drive sharing and sources, see Google Drive files. For OneDrive and Office 365, see OneDrive and Office 365 files.
The terrace shows files and folders from all Google Drive and Office 365 content sources on the page, combined. You do not pick a source on the terrace itself.
A page contains at most one Files & Folders terrace.
Turning the terrace on and off
- Click the + (Add content) button in the admin menu.
- Click Terrace Menu.
- Toggle Files & Folders on.
Toggling the terrace off hides it and retains its heading and sort setting. Connected sources are unchanged. The pencil menu on the terrace contains a second control for this, Turn Off Files & Folders Terrace.
The pencil menu
| Item | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Add File | Opens the add-source flow for Google Drive |
| Sort By | Opens the sort options for the list |
| Manage Files/Folders | Opens the content sources manager |
| Move Up and Move Down | Move the terrace. Disabled at the top and bottom of the page |
| Turn Off Files & Folders Terrace | Hides the terrace |
Add File opens the Google Drive add-source flow. For Office 365, use Manage Files/Folders or Manage Content Sources and choose the Office 365 source type. See OneDrive and Office 365 files.
Heading
The heading is edited in place. Click it, type, and press Enter to save or Escape to cancel. The heading holds 250 characters.
A terrace whose heading has never been set displays Files & Folders. A heading saved as an empty field is not displayed to visitors. Editors continue to see the Add Title placeholder in its position.
Layout
- Desktop: a file list on the left and an inline preview on the right. Expand and Shrink change the preview height.
- Mobile: the inline preview is not displayed. Opening a previewable file uses a preview window instead.
The list loads twelve items at a time and loads more as you scroll. The same page size applies inside a browsed folder.
Sort By
Click the pencil on the terrace and click Sort By. The options are:
| Option | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Filename (A-Z) | Alphabetical by name |
| Filename (Z-A) | Reverse alphabetical by name |
| Last Modified Date (Newest-Oldest) | Newest first. Default |
| Last Modified Date (Oldest-Newest) | Oldest first |
Save and Exit keeps the choice. Cancel discards it. A success notice reads Sort By Updated!
Folders
When subfolder navigation is enabled for the district, a signed-in visitor can open a folder in place. An upward row labelled with the parent folder title, or Top Level at the outermost level, returns up the path.
When subfolder navigation is off, a folder opens at the cloud provider instead.
A signed-out visitor who taps a folder while subfolder navigation is on sees: Login to navigate folder contents in site. A View in {Platform} link opens the folder at the provider.
See Google Drive files for the district feature and public sharing rules.
Preview
Google Drive files preview inline when the source supports it. Office 365 files preview inline only when the source has an embedded view link. Otherwise the item opens at the provider.
Constraints
- One Files & Folders terrace per page.
- All connected file sources on the page appear in this one terrace.
- The terrace can be moved with Move Up and Move Down, but not above the Hero Banner or below the Map.
FAQ
- "Why does Add File open Google Drive when we use Office 365?" Add File always opens the Google Drive add-source flow. Add an Office 365 source from Manage Files/Folders or Manage Content Sources.
- "Why must visitors log in to open a folder?" Subfolder navigation in the site requires a signed-in visitor. Signed-out visitors use View in {Platform} or open the folder at the provider.
- "Why is there no preview on a phone?" The inline preview pane is desktop only. On mobile, a previewable file opens in a preview window.
- "How do I connect a Drive folder?" Use Add File, or Manage Content Sources. The folder must be shared so visitors can view it. See Google Drive files.
