Block Help: Links Block

Links blocks are great for quickly adding links to a page without it needing to go in the top navigation.

Using a links blocks on a page helps when you have multiple page links that you would like to provide to users of the site. It can easily organize similar links by using folders where groups of links can be displayed. 

Tips & Uses
  • When adding a long list of links, remember to save the block frequently
  • Links can be external URL’s, internal URL’s, or Google or Office 365 share links
  • Links blocks display columns based on width. Stretch the block to show 2 columns of links. See the article about moving and resizing blocks.

Adding a Links Block

  • To add a new block click the "+" button to bring up the list of Block options. 
  • Scroll over the "Links" option and select it

. Give your "Links Block" an obvious name. Names like "Student Links" or "Department Links" work well.

  • Add a link by clicking the "Add New Link" button. 
  • Choose between "External Page" or "Internal Page". You can also use shareable links from Google Drive or Office 365.
  • Add a title for the link and paste the URL for an external page. If an internal page is to be linked, type the name of the existing page in the "select page" option to search for it. A drop down menu should appear where the corresponding page can be selected. 
  • Make sure to click the "Add Block" button at the bottom right hand side of the preview window. 

Things to Keep in Mind

  • You can repeat this process by clicking "Add New Link" or adding a folder by clicking "Add New Folder", make sure to have specific names.
  • The Block will give you an error message if there is a blank folder or link present.  
  • There is a drag and drop option for the "Links Block". Click on the link you wish to move, and drag it to the folder you wish to add the link to. Once you see a blue box under the specific folder, you can let go of the link, and it should sit underneath the folder. 
  • Once you have all the links you would like in that block, you can click the "Add Block" button, and your new block should appear on the page. 
  • To edit the Links Block, click on the Pencil icon in the top right hand corner of the block, and edit accordingly. 
  • Make sure the preview of the block shows up before you move on.
